We had a lot of data that our leadership team and investors wanted to analyze to better understand the business. We looked at traditional BI but we didn’t have a BI expert on the team and it can take months to get even just basic reports set up, and we simply couldn’t afford to wait that long for answers.

Summary

Parasail, an emerging leader in AI deployment infrastructure, needed to quickly analyze and visualize complex data streams across their rapidly growing business without dedicated data science resources. By leveraging Fabi.ai's AI-powered analytics platform, Parasail transformed their approach to data analytics, enabling team members across the organization to generate powerful insights without specialized SQL knowledge. The results include a 90% reduction in dashboard creation time, significant cost savings by delaying the need for dedicated data science hires, and data-driven decision making that has measurably improved product development, marketing effectiveness, and revenue optimization.

Building the foundation for AI infrastructure

Parasail is pioneering the world's first "AI Deployment Network," providing teams with seamless, on-demand access to GPU compute for both real-time inference and massive batch workloads. Rather than tying users to a single cloud provider, Parasail enables access to a global network of GPUs—intelligently matched by performance, price, and geography—without contracts, quotas, or vendor lock-in.

Founded in 2023, Parasail operates at the cutting edge of AI infrastructure, specializing in inference, dedicated instances, serverless compute, and open-source models. As a rapidly growing startup expanding from 12 to 20 employees, Parasail needed sophisticated data analytics capabilities without diverting resources from their core mission.

The challenge: Analytics without analysts

Like many early-stage startups, Parasail faced the challenge of needing enterprise-level analytics without enterprise-level resources. The company was collecting valuable data across multiple systems but struggled to transform it into actionable insights efficiently.

We had a lot of data that our leadership team and investors wanted to analyze to better understand the business. We looked at traditional BI but we didn’t have a BI expert on the team and it can take months to get even just basic reports set up, and we simply couldn’t afford to wait that long for answers.

Parasail was confronting several key analytics challenges:

  • Limited SQL expertise across the team: While some team members had technical backgrounds, not everyone had the specialized data query skills needed to contribute to reporting using their enterprise data warehouse
  • Resource constraints: As a growing startup, they couldn't justify allocating budget for dedicated data analysts or scientists
  • Time pressure: The team needed insights quickly to drive business decisions without spending weeks learning complex tools

Their initial approach involved using limited samples in Excel or Google Sheets and attempting to use traditional BI tools like Tableau, but these methods produced only basic analytics and weren't delivering the comprehensive insights needed to drive the business forward.

Transforming reporting with AI: Fabi.ai's solution

When Matt Carnali and his team discovered Fabi.ai, they saw an opportunity to empower their entire organization with data insights without specialized training or dedicated analysts.

Fabi.ai's AI-driven approach allowed them to:

  • Connect to their data source-of-truth: Connect and analyze data in PostgreSQL, pulled from Stripe, Metronome, Google Analytics, Hubspot, and internal systems
  • Generate SQL without SQL expertise: Use natural language prompts to create complex queries that would have required significant coding skills
  • Iterate and refine quickly: Test hypotheses and adjust analyses in minutes rather than hours or days using AI-generated Python code
  • Clean and normalize data automatically: Have the AI handle data preparation tasks that traditionally consume significant analyst time

After connecting Postgres, we immediately started asking the Fabi.ai Analyst Agent to pull our data and with just a bit of guidance it was able to start producing complex and accurate queries. From there we were able to start slicing the data to gather insights and produce reports.

From raw data to board reports

Fabi.ai Smartbooks, which make it easy to chain SQL, Python and no-code cells, provided Parasail a way to start with a hypothesis, quickly explore the data and build out a sophisticated analysis until they got to insights they could act on. Once those insights were ready, Fabi.ai’s reporting capability quickly transformed this complex analysis into a process with dashboards.

Matt describes the process:

  • Data exploration: After connecting Fabi.ai to our Postgres instance, we were able to quickly start exploring the data with AI to get a feel for it.
  • Advanced analysis: Once the team understood the underlying data, the AI Analyst Agent allowed them to quickly slice and dice the data by different time and customer segments using a mix of SQL and Python.
  • Publishing dashboards and workflows: Once the team had uncovered the metrics and insights they were looking for, sharing and distributing those was as easily as publishing a dashboard in just a few clicks. Fabi.ai’s dashboard based on SQL and Python meant that the team could perform everything from exploratory data analysis to reporting in a single environment.

Matt highlights how quickly the team was able to get up to speed: "Fabi.ai took us four to five hours to learn. A traditional BI tool would probably have taken us a few months to get any sort of dashboard stood up."

Results: Analytics transformation

By implementing Fabi.ai, Parasail has achieved remarkable results:

Quantitative benefits:

  • 90% reduction in dashboard creation time: Tasks that would have taken days now take hours or minutes
  • Significant cost savings: Delayed the need to hire dedicated data science personnel
  • 4-5 hour learning curve vs. 2-3 months for traditional BI tools
  • Expanded analytics access from 1-2 technical users to the broader team

Qualitative improvements:

  • Data-driven executive decisions: Board and executive team meetings now rely on comprehensive analytics rather than intuition
  • Enhanced marketing effectiveness: Ability to measure ad campaign performance with precision
  • Improved product development: Better understanding of feature adoption and customer behavior
  • Revenue optimization: Clearer visibility into revenue sources and opportunities
  • Cross-team enablement: Team members without technical backgrounds can now perform sophisticated analyses

This is the fourth startup I’ve worked at, and I’ve never seen a startup at this stage with such a small team with such a sophisticated level of reporting. It’s quite impressive, because already we can see what ad campaigns are working, what feature functions are working, like, where exactly is our revenue coming from.”

Real users, real impact

Fabi.ai has been a transformative experience for team members of varying SQL experience levels. Not only has it enabled individuals with advanced SQL skills to pull their own reports without a full-time data analyst, but it has enabled individuals with less SQL experience to participate in the reporting process.

Team members with less SQL experience are able to prompt the Analyst Agent and understand its thought process and see the query. Through this process they’re able to learn SQL. I never thought I’d see individuals ramp up so quickly.”

Beyond metrics: Building a data-driven culture

Perhaps the most significant impact has been on Parasail's culture and decision-making processes. What was once a "finger in the wind" approach has transformed into scientific precision.

Before we had Fabi.ai, and in previous roles, we mostly put a finger to the wind and tapped into our beliefs. When that’s the case, you can easily make the data say what you want it to say. But now we can see all the data which gives us a complete picture of the reality of the business.”

This data-driven foundation is helping Parasail make better decisions about:

  • Product roadmap: Understanding which features drive the most value
  • Marketing strategy: Identifying which campaigns and channels perform best
  • Sales approach: Optimizing sales motions based on customer data
  • Resource allocation: Making informed decisions about where to invest

Looking ahead: The future with Fabi.ai

As Parasail continues to grow, they see opportunities to further enhance their analytics capabilities with Fabi.ai with a focus on two areas in particular:

  1. Enhanced collaboration: Collaborating around insights and exploratory data analysis is a critical piece of our process and helps make us better as a team. Fabi.ai has already launched unique, real-time collaboration features, and we look forward to seeing even more functionality empowering cross-team collaboration.
  2. Automated reporting: Now that we’ve built reports we want to start distributing these two where our stakeholders spend their time. We’re going to start investing more in insight distribution with some of Fabi.ai’s new features like email and Slack cells and will be keeping an eye out for even more insight distribution features.
